Summer 2026 looks set to be bountiful for the melon and watermelon sector. Production forecasts from Morocco’s Souss region and Andalusia point to an 8% increase in exportable volumes, supported by European demand that has grown steadily for three consecutive years.
Charentais Melons
The netted Charentais remains the undisputed star of the summer. Its exceptional sugar content — regularly exceeding 14° Brix this season — and its meltingly soft orange flesh make it the consumers’ favorite in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Its marketing window runs from June through September.
Seedless Watermelons
Seedless watermelons, driven by a fundamental trend among younger consumers and families, are up 18% in northern European markets. Medium sizes between 5 and 7 kg are the most in demand from large retail buyers.
